Robin profile

The Reverend Robin Figg

Robin has been Vicar here since September 2017 when he crossed the Pennines to join us after 16 years as Vicar of Kildwick in North Yorkshire.  Before his ordination training at Westcott House in Cambridge and his subsequent ordination in Wells Cathedral in 1994, Robin spent 11 years as a Weapon Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy - truly a case of 'swords to ploughshares'!
Robin has been a Tertiary Francsican since 1997 and this has influenced his ministry, as has the work of Rene Girard and others who teach a non-violent theory of the atonement, including James Alison, Brian McLaren and Richard Rohr.  He has also been intrigued by the work of Margaret Barker who has developed an approach to bible studies known as Temple Theology.
Robin has an MA in Psychotherapy & Counselling and, in addition to his parochial ministry, he serves as a member of the Inter-Diocesan Counselling Service. He is also one of the diocesan team of spiritual directors.
Hill walking has long been a passion for Robin  and one that living in our beautiful area allows him to indulge in what free time he has.  Growing up in Somerset, Robin developed a love of cricket, spending his youth at the Taunton ground watching the likes of Brian Close, Ian Botham, Viv Richards adn Joel Garner.  Much to his delight he was also at Headingly  for the 'Botham's Ashes' test in 1981.
As anyone who knows him will tell you, Robin is also very partial to good coffee, ice cream and chocolate, although not necessarily in that order!
