On reflection, we might be breaching our agreement with our advertisers by listing them rather than showing their artwork. So we’re gonna need to use their artwork, which in some cases is very poor quality or ask for fresh files which takes time we dont have. Also, if we decide to put Parish News out monthly rather than every two months, advertisers would get more frequent exposure. Perhaps we have a good argument for putting advertising prices up.

Advertisers paid an amount based on 11 publications per year but we have reduced this to 6!

With regard to the artwork, I asked for a list of contacts 6 months ago so that I can contact the advertisers and ask for new artwork. Dianne, who communicates with them, told me that she would do it but I don’t think it has happened.

My position is that we need to provide what we have been paid for or we refund a partial amount based on how many issues the advert has appeared in so far.

Diane was never keen to take this on but agreed to help out (slowly) last year. She said she was prepared (with undisguised reluctance) do it one more year. Hence my strong recommnedation that this should be part of Antonia’s benefice administrator role (Jodie has now incorporated). The cover letter for last year’s invoices actually promised 10 issues in 2024 (don’t ask me where I got that from it was pretty chaotic at the time). Far more significant is the necessary change to electronic copies (see separate topic) which I expect has resulted in far fewer page viewings. We are talking about ca. £1000 advertiser income for the benefice so this is not a trivial sum to walk away from (but I am treasurer!). Until end-Feb I haven’t received any advertiser payments so I assume no invoices have been sent (and be shouldn’t be until we know what were doing whereupon the invoice letter can clarify what advertisers will get for their money)

We have found the ads useful when seeking a local supplier.

I think the adverts are a very important part of the magazine and should be kept. The current prices are good value to the advertisers. Maybe next year, if we have settled into a better routine by then they could be increased annually in line with inflation?Joyce (Borwick)
